under development, wracking my brain to remember, incomplete at best.
Was a season ticket subscriber to the Regina Symphony but my attendance the last few years has been minimal due to my reno obsession While I thoroughly enjoy the classical productions, I also really enjoy the Pop Series they put on a few times a year. It's nice to hear the symphony in more of a big band role occasionally and to hear them cover music that you wouldn't normally hear arranged in such a fashion. The Pop Series regularly covers movie music and often provides tributes to the swing era and its artists and features talented musicians in that genre.
Victo Sawa has done a phenomenal job of promoting the RSO. They often play to a full house and tickets can be impossible to get unless you do so well in advance.
At one time, I used to have season tickets to the dance productions they were so regular. We were even treated to performances by Karen Kain and Mikhail Baryshnikov. A dearth of dance productions existed for many years with the cutbacks on ballet troupes hitting the road. Now, there seems to be a return, albeit on a much smaller scale and only for modern dance, but at least it's something.
modern vs. classical
What a great opportunity for young performers to get exposure and polish their talent and for the audience to enjoy all their efforts. We never miss their Christmas productions at the Tommy Douglas building and try to take in as many of their more modern pop influenced performances at the Exhibition in the summer.
I love live theatre, from elementary school productions right up to the most slickly produced extravaganzas. I've enjoyed being involved with them whenever I can, both from a production standpoint and to a much lesser extent, participating in them. As much as I admire the ability to act, I have a serious problem remembering lines :( I fondly remember producing a Christmas play for my grade 4 class. I made a "spotlight" from a lightbulb and a paper cone wrapped around it so I appreciate the limitations of low budget productions! :) I did manage to get a backup singing role in a Christmas play at our church a few years ago and was thrilled to once again participate.
