I'll be taking my parents on a European vacation. This is something I have wanted to do for them for a very, very long time. Dad spent time in Great Britain and Italy during and after serving in World War II. He has many fond memories of Italy and is anxious to show mom many of the sites. Mom's heritage is in Scotland and this will be her first visit. I originally planned on sending just mom and dad on a tour but was concerned about dad's mobility so I decided to go along to help with that.
I will be updating the itinerary soon with details and pictures. Plans so far:
April 29th - Leave for Paris
We are leasing a Renault Megane and drive through the following countries (gas is ~$1.75 litre!!):
May 26th - Return to Regina
Although we will partake in many of the typical tourist attractions, I hope that we can venture off the beaten path and take in some of the culture. Staying in bed and breakfasts as much as possible should help with that and make the trip that much more charming and memorable.
Had seriously considered Eurorail train passes but was concerned about schedules, flexibility and access to the countryside as well as the ability to get around once at a destination. There are generally numerous ways including bus, subway and taxi to get from the train station to the city's attractions but far less access to the more rural areas where I hope to stay in the B&B.
